Diversi anni fa veniva detto:

“ I mussulmani non accettano che qualcuno si dichiari il profeta di Dio, perché? Perché se è il profeta di Dio, allora è giocoforza il più recente, il profeta più attuale, e Maometto diventa un modello antico, superato. Ma così Maometto può essere spodestato, quindi hanno stabilito che non ci sarà mai nessun altro profeta di Dio, Maometto è l’ultimo.

E perché mai? Forse Dio da quel momento in poi ha dichiarato bancarotta? Ha forse abbandonato l’umanità? Non ha forse più niente da dire a noi poveri mortali? Si è definitivamente fermato con Maometto? E perché?  E perché non si è fermato prima?

Per i cristiani si è fermato molto prima, con Cristo. Egli è il solo figlio di Dio. Ma perché non si è fermato prima di Cristo? Per i giainisti infatti si è fermato prima ancora, con Mahavira. Egli è l’ultimo dei teerthankara, l’ultimo profeta… ed è così ovunque. Ogni religione vuole che il suo profeta, il suo messia, sia l’ultimo. E così. Ogni volta che qualcuno diventa illuminato e lo dichiara, tutte le religioni organizzate saranno contro di lui.

Io sono nato all’interno della religione giainista. Il giorno che ho dichiarato di essere il venticinquesimo teerthankara, tutti si sono arrabbiati moltissimo. Hanno cominciato a dire: “il venticinquesimo? Ma non se ne fa menzione nelle nostre scritture!” Così ho detto loro: “ Possiamo riscrivere quei testi e aggiornarli. Com’è possibile che parlino del venticinquesimo? Quei libri sono stati scritti quando era vivo il ventiquattresimo. Ora noi possiamo scrivere del venticinquesimo e io farò anche un accenno al ventiseisimo, al ventisettesimo e così via…perché Dio non finisce qui con me…” “

Several years ago people used to say:

"Muslims do not accept anyone who declares himself to be a prophet of God, why? Because if this was so, then he would become the newest, the latest prophet, and Muhammad would therefore be out dated. But this way Muhammad can be ousted, so they decided that there will never be another prophet of God, that Muhammad is the last.

And why? Did God declare himself bankrupt from then on? Has he by any chance abandoned humanity? Does he have nothing more to say to us poor mortals? Has he definitely stopped with Muhammad? And why?  Why didn’t he stop sooner?

According to Christians, he stopped much earlier, with Christ, who is the only son of God. But why didn’t he stop before Christ? According to Jains, in fact, he stopped even before that, with Mahavira. He is the last of the teerthankara, the last prophet ... and it's like this everywhere. Every religion wants his prophet, his messiah, to be the last. This is how it is. Every time someone becomes enlightened, and declares it, all organized religions will be against him.

I was born in the Jain religion. The day I declared to be the twenty-fifth teerthankara, everyone became extremely angry. They all began to say, "the twenty-fifth? But there it is no mention of this in our scriptures!" So I told them:" We can update and rewrite these texts. How is it possible that they speak of the twenty-fifth teerthankara? Those books were written when the twenty-fourth teerthankara was alive. Now we can write about the twenty-fifth and I will also hint to the twenty-sixth, the twenty-seventh, and so on ... because God does not end here with me ... "
